Agents that decide, loop and escalate
Agents can do far more than one straight line of steps. They pull facts out of free text, make decisions, write documents and put dates on the calendar, chase people who haven’t answered and escalate, and work through every record on a schedule. All of it in steps you can read.
Watch the presentation A 2:41 video; captions under CC. The highlights are below too.For example, at a law firm: a conflict check on every new client, and a weekly review of every open matter. The same fields, settings and functions build anything you can imagine for your business.
Facts from free text
aiExtract pulls the fields you name out of whatever someone wrote: here the opposing party and the response deadline, from the client’s description of their matter. The next steps use them like any other value.
Decisions
Conditions combine with and / or, branch with else if, and nest. The conflict check looks for the opposing party among existing clients: no match, it goes straight through; a match, it asks before going on.
Documents and dates
An agent writes documents and puts events on calendars. With no conflict, this one writes the engagement letter as a team document, puts the response deadline on the Deadlines calendar, and emails the client a link to the letter.
Wait, then escalate
Give a request a time limit, like two days. If nobody answers by then, the request closes and the agent carries on: remind someone, ask someone else, or decide without them. Here the Partners don’t answer, so the Managing Partner is asked.
Every record, on a schedule
for each works through a list of records, and a schedule runs an agent every hour, day or week. The weekly review checks every open matter and posts a digest of the ones gone quiet to the Partners’ chat.
Every decision on record
Approvals & runs keeps each run step by step: what it found, who it asked, who didn’t answer in time, and who decided.
Questions teams ask
How far agents go.
- Can an agent wait days for someone? Yes: days or weeks, without anything running. Give it a time limit, and it carries on when that passes.
- How many records can a loop go through? Hundreds at a time; a long loop simply carries on in the background.
- Can I change what an agent does later? Yes: its steps are text you can read and edit in Jade, and the Agent Creator can update it from a new description.
- What happens if a step fails? The run stops and says why, and whoever started it gets a message.
